FI Consulting Gives Back to Local Families in Need through AFAC’S SPF Program
Arlington, VA, May 5, 2015—At FI Consulting, we believe it is important to give back to the community that supports us by providing help to our neighbors in need. By participating in an Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) Sponsor Purchased Food (SPF) event on Tuesday, April 28, the FI Consulting team was able to provide healthy food for 2,200 Arlington families who cannot afford to purchase enough food to meet their basic needs.
As part of our participation, FI purchased 1,000 pounds of dry beans and 1,200 pounds of whole grain rice. On the day of the event, our employees and their families came together to bag the food and prepare it for distribution to those in need.
According to an Arlington Food Security Study, despite being one of the wealthiest counties in the U.S., slightly more than 4 in 10 Arlington residents experience food insecurity, which is measured by limited or uncertain access to food, reduced food intake, and disrupted eating patterns.
About AFAC’s SPF
AFAC’s SPF program combines volunteerism, fundraising, and direct service to help AFAC keep its commitment of giving healthy, fresh food to the families in our care. Supplemental groceries from AFAC mean that families can remain in their homes, workers can stay on the job, children are ready to learn, and mothers and babies have the nutrition they need. AFAC helps relieve the food budgets of its clients, thereby allowing them to make other necessary purchases without sacrificing their health and nutrition needs.
